Agreement Overview
These Terms and Conditions govern your membership with Khwalo Funeral Services and the use of our website. By joining
any Khwalo funeral plan or using our website, you agree to be bound by these terms.
Khwalo Funeral Services operates in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, with offices in Lusikisiki (Head Office),
Mthatha, Bizana, Port St Johns, Flagstaff, Ngcobo, East London, and Durban.
Membership and Joining
Eligibility
- The principal member must be aged 18 years or older
- A valid, certified copy of a South African ID document is required
- Accurate and truthful information must be provided at registration
Joining Fee
- A non-refundable joining fee of R60 is payable upon registration
- The joining fee must be paid together with the first month’s premium
Waiting Period
- A waiting period of 6 (six) months applies for natural death claims
- Accidental death is covered immediately upon joining
- No benefits will be paid for natural death during the waiting period
Premium Payments
Payment Terms
- Monthly premiums must be paid by the 7th of each month
- Premiums are determined by plan level (A through E) and member age
- Premium amounts may be adjusted with reasonable notice
Non-Payment and Lapse
- Members who fail to pay for 60 consecutive days will have membership terminated
- All benefits are forfeited upon termination
- Re-joining requires a new joining fee and new 6-month waiting period
- No refunds for previously paid premiums
Benefits and Services
Funeral Plan Benefits
Benefits depend on the plan selected (A through E) and include combinations of:
- Hearse transport
- Coffin (foil range to dome casket depending on plan)
- Tent (2-pole to 4-pole)
- Chairs (100 to 300)
- Draping (10 to 100 chairs)
- Built grave with tiles
- Tombstone/headstone
- Grocery allowance (R1,000 to R4,000)
- Airtime voucher (R100 to R350)
- Printed programs (50 to 250 copies)
- Decoration (front only to full)
- Live band (from Plan B)
- Lowering device (all plans)
- Stage (from Plan C)
Cash Policy
- Optional separate benefit paying R15,000 upon death
- Requires separate monthly premium
- Same waiting period and payment terms apply
Livestock Policy
- Optional benefit providing cattle and sheep for traditional funeral rites
- Three tiers: 1 Cow and 2 Sheep, 1 Cow and 3 Sheep, or 1 Cow and 5 Sheep
- Requires separate monthly premium
Children’s Cover
- Children under 18 are covered under family plans at R6,250 value
- Includes hearse, coffin, front draping, 50 chairs, storage, and 2-pole tent
- Maximum 6 children under 21 per family plan
Extended Family
- Up to 2 additional members aged 21-59 may be added
- Additional premiums of R140 to R185 per person per month
Claims Process
Reporting a Death
- Report to the nearest office or call 078 400 4339 within 1 day of death
- Late reporting may delay benefit processing
Required Documentation
- Certified copy of the death certificate
- Certified copy of the ID of the deceased
- Certified copy of the ID of the claimant
- Proof of membership
Claim Conditions
- Membership must be active and premiums up to date at time of death
- Waiting period must be completed for natural death claims
- Khwalo Funeral Services reserves the right to investigate any claim
- Benefits rendered upon receipt of all required documentation
Member Obligations
- Notify us of any changes to personal details, dependants, or beneficiaries
- Ensure premiums are paid on time each month
- Provide truthful and accurate information at all times
- Misrepresentation or fraud results in immediate termination and forfeiture of benefits
Limitations and Exclusions
- Benefits only applicable to registered, paid-up members
- No benefits payable during the 6-month waiting period for natural death
- Not liable for delays caused by force majeure
- Service delivery subject to availability and logistical feasibility
Amendments
Khwalo Funeral Services may amend these terms with reasonable notice. Continued membership after notification
constitutes acceptance.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the
Eastern Cape courts.
